Among them were several young women in uniform, responsible for the camp's internal administration. They weren't assistants or mere subordinates. They had held positions of authority and assumed direct roles within the system of surveillance and punishment. Their presence in the camp was neither circumstantial nor symbolic, but an active part of the regime's functioning. For the British, that was enough to hold them responsible and bring them before a military tribunal. Who were these women? How did they come to occupy these positions?
