"Making Fun of Art" The Art of Andrew Smith - • Making Fun of Art | Andrew Smith Art Real time raw footage of an ice floe (or Ice Tsunami) on Utah Lake, February 2017. This particular "push" lasted about 15 minutes before the massive sheet of ice Each spring warmer temperatures begin to thaw the ice that has set up during the cold months on Utah Lake. As it begins to melt it can drift more freely as the edges melt away. Often when the winds shift direction or a storm front moves in, the friction of the wind across the large surface are of the ice creates enough push to move the massive ice sheets. It will then drift until it contacts a solid object, such as the lake shore or another large sheet of ice. When this happens the contacting edges crumble and break apart as the mass of the ice behind it pushes it into large piles. This continues until the large mass of the ice loses momentum and grinds to a halt, followed by silence. Although it tends to happen on yearly basis, the timing and intensity is hard to predict.
