An elderly man visits a naval air museum where a retired F-14 Tomcat is being restored by volunteer mechanics. He starts quietly inspecting the engine nacelle, adjusting wiring that others missed. A young volunteer mechanic tells him to step away — "this isn't a petting zoo." The old man nods and backs off. But the Wing Commander running the restoration project walks over, sees the man, and goes pale. He's a former Navy test pilot who flew the final F-14 combat sortie — the man literally wrote portions of the maintenance manual. The Commander orders the mechanics to give him full access and listen to every word he says. The old man proceeds to diagnose a hydraulic issue in 4 minutes that the team couldn't solve in 3 weeks.
