NANTES, FRANCE I Le Voyage á Nantes and Mechanical Beasts

We’re in Nantes, France visiting friends who live here, and we have to say, we love this city! It's just two hours south of Paris by train and is the sixth biggest city in France. Every year the city of Nantes has an annual citywide art festival, Le Voyage á Nantes. With over 70 different art exhibits including sculptures, paintings, and performances, there are so many things to see. To make it easier for art aficionados to take in all of the sights, there is a green line throughout the city to guide you along. Walking the entire green line is between 20-30 kilometers, (12-19 miles). We love art, but not 20-30 kilometers worth of it. We took a look at the free provided maps and plotted our course. We started at the Jardin des Plantes, a beautiful garden full of giant colorful figures that are melded into the rolling green hills. The pristine green grass interrupted by bright cartoons makes for an amazing walk through nature. The Château des Ducs de Bretagne is free to enter and walking up on the ramparts gives you a great view of the city to help you plot your course on the green line. The city of Nantes itself already feels like a work of art with its stunning architecture and delightful cobblestoned street. We ate lunch in a back alley near the city center. Baguettes filled with meat, sauce, and french fries (though I think they just call them fries), plus two local Nantes beers made for a great meal and the fuel to keep walking. As the rain began to fall, we made it to one of the most spectacular permanent exhibitions on the île de Nantes. You’ll have to watch the video to find out what it is!
