I set up an Umbrel Bitcoin and Lightning Network Node, and wanted to document my journey. Special thanks to BTC Sessions, find his YouTube channel here: / btcsessions I watched his video on this about 3 full times before proceeding on my own. I was able to follow the instructions provided by Umbrel off of their main site: https://getumbrel.com/ It ended up taking about 4 days to download the entire Bitcoin blockchain. The biggest problem I had was heat. The system provides warnings if it gets to hot, and then it throttles down the cpu to try and reduce the likelihood of damage. I had not read a lot about the heat issue in my initial research, but after I started looking for solutions it turns out it is an area of wide concern. I ultimately ran a small personal fan pointed towards the Raspberry Pi and case, and eventually opened the case to keep it in normal operating conditions. My new research led me to order an official Raspberry Pi fan that could go inside of the factory box, but while I was waiting for that to arrive, I found Umbrel had recommend on Twitter a Flirc aluminum case, I ordered that from Amazon and replaced it, with great results. https://twitter.com/getumbrel/status/... https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07... The aluminum case disperses the heat of the cpu. I put everything back together on my rack, and now I am running a full Bitcoin and Lightning node. I have more work to do, I want to rename my node, and connect with some peers, but as of now the network is just a little bit more decentralized. Thank you for watching.
