Seligman, Arizona, is located along the iconic Route 66. It is a small town that encapsulates the essence of the American West. This small town is situated not too far from Interstate 40, yet it gives the impression of being in the middle of nowhere. This is because, from 1926 to 1978, Seligman held a place on the original Route 66. However, with the opening of I 40, local traffic in Arizona dwindled significantly. While tourists seeking an authentic Route 66 experience still traverse through this town relic, native Arizonans prefer to bypass it for a quicker route from point A to point B. Nevertheless, Seligman offers much to see, appreciate, and simply marvel at. The next time you find yourself on I-40, traveling between, let's say, Flagstaff and Kingman, consider taking a detour to explore Seligman. Originally known as "Prescott Junction," Seligman earned its name as the railroad stop on the Santa Fe mainline junction, connecting with the Prescott and Arizona Central Railway Company feeder line, destined for Prescott in the Arizona Territory. The year 1886 marked the renaming of the town to Seligman, paying tribute to Jesse Seligman, a key figure in the founding of Seligman Company of New York and a significant financier of the local railroad infrastructure.
