Indistractable Book Review: How I Regained Focus (and What Actually Worked for Me)

In this episode of Ari’s Quest Log, I review the book Indistractable by Nir Eyal. I talk about why we get distracted even when we know what we should be doing, explain the core ideas behind the four-step Indistractable model, and—most importantly—share what I personally learned and actually apply in my daily life. This is not a hype or productivity-hack video. Instead, it’s an honest reflection on focus, internal triggers, time-blocking, and what helped (and didn’t help) me while balancing a busy job, side projects, and daily reading goals. At the end, I give the book my final rating and explain where it fits in my long-term reading roadmap toward deep focus and personal systems. 👉 Question for you: what distracts you the most—and have you read this book? #Indistractable #NirEyal #BookReview #FocusAndProductivity #Timeboxing #DealingWithDistractions #PersonalDevelopmentBooks #AriQuestLog 00:00 – Intro: Why Focus Matters to Me 01:42 – What Is Indistractable About? 02:26 – The 4-Step Indistractable Model 02:32 – Master Internal Triggers 03:17 – Make Time for Traction 03:55 – Hack Back External Triggers 04:39 – Prevent Distraction with Pacts 05:20 – What I Learned Personally 06:29 – What I Changed in My Daily Life 08:09 – What Didn’t Work for Me 08:24 – Who This Book Is (and Isn’t) For 09:04 – Final Verdict & Rating 10:00 – Reading Roadmap & Where This Book Fits 11:19 – What’s Next + Outro -- Transcript -- Hey, welcome to a new episode of Ari's Quest Log. In my daily life I am dealing with constant distractions. My day-to-day job is really busy, I have my side projects and I have a reading goal to read. And learn every day. And for me it is important to keep and maintain my focus in order to reach my goals. With that reason I decided to read more books and one of these books is Indistractable. This is the book Indistractable by Nir Eyal. I hope I pronounced it correctly. I will cover, I will review this book in this video. I will tell what this book is about, what I learned personally and what lessons I apply every day. And at the end of the video I will also give this book a rating. So let's begin. What is Indistractable about? Well, the central question of the book is about why do we get distracted even when we know what we should do. And the key mindset is that distraction itself is not a lack of discipline, it is managed by internal triggers. Most important note that this book emphasizes towards not anti-technology and to pro-intentional living. The core model of this book is the four-step Indistractable model. And one, master after master your internal triggers. And that contains, part of these internal triggers is boredom, stress, anxiety, fatigue, distraction starts inside. And not with apps. In my case, it is mainly caused by stress and fatigue when I work too much. Boredom I seldom experience. Tip two, make time for traction. It's important to schedule what matters to you. And if it's not scheduled, it's not real. So when I want to work on, let's say this ISO project for my work, I schedule time on the day to focus on this project. And that helps. Then we have three, hack back to external triggers. With that you can think about notifications that you get on your phone, emails and social media. And it's best to remove these triggers as much as possible. So for instance, for myself, I try to put my phone out of reach. And I get it when I need it, for instance, for two-factor authentication. Then we have four, prevent distractions with pacts. Yeah, this book, Indistractable, there are some chapter or chapters about pacts. I personally, I'm not doing that, but for some people can be helpful to, yeah, get signed pacts with your partner or maybe your boss to be able to reach certain goals. So what did I learn personally? Well, I learned that distractions can be caused by emotions. To feel the urge to respond to triggers. Try harder to do things that never works. The scheduling of blocks of time to work on a project, it surprised me how much that helps. It also surprised me that that's using a noise canceling headset like this one really helps me. And if I say that I don't have time, that's a lie. And I continue with my morning ritual of reading and reflecting because that works great for me. What changes for me? Well, my reading and my creative work, I schedule that more explicitly. If there are any discomforts for me, I try to accept that instead of escaping it. It could be that there is a book that I'm reading that might feel a little bit difficult to get through it. I would just try to push through it and sometimes skip parts if that makes sense to you. Also I reduced my reactive checking on my emails, phone and feeds and also my desktop. I remove all icons and in my browser or browsers, I try to remove most tabs,. But I still keep on adding more tabs over time, but I really try to limit the number of tabs, which is actually really difficult for me.
