This video shows how to use the Fiber Trainer to exercise fiber optic test instrumentation such as visual fault locators, optical time domain reflectometers (OTDR), laser sources, optical power meters and fusion splicers. Best practice cleaning and inspection is demonstrated and needs to be performed before connecting any fibers to a bulkhead. The integrated Macrobend and damaged fiber events are used to demonstrate the Visual Fault Locator (VFL). The 180XL VFL can be used in continuous wave or modulation modes to visually identify each event with a red laser light. The two fiber reels on the top of the Fiber Trainer provide approximately 15m on each spool that are used to splice together using the 915FS Fusion splicer and 915CL cleaver. The insertion loss of the fusion splice can then be measured using a laser source and optical power meter. The OFL100 OTDR is used to measure the 1000m fiber link that has a simulated connector loss event at the 500m point. The OFL100 will provide a full report of the fiber link documenting the loss, location and reflectivity of each event on the link. 00:06 - Introduction 00:34 - Cleaning & Inspecting 01:00 - Damaged Fiber Port 01:25 - Fiber Link In & Fiber Link Out Port 01:48 - OTDR to Fiber Link In 02:01 - Reel 1 & Reel 2 for Fusion Splicing 02:16 - Loss Measurement at Reel 1 & Reel 2 02:26 - New Splice to Measure Loss
