Kiambu Government sacks striking Doctors

County executive committee member for health Dr. Elias Maina, said the county administration had already fired doctors who had abandoned their duties on Tuesday. Dr. Elias stated that a headcount was underway to identify all doctors who did not report to work. Maina said that the county had invested billions in the health sector, which gets Ksh8 billion of the county’s annual budget, to improve medical services and reduce cases of healthcare workers boycotting work. He dismissed claims that the county has not been paying its health workers on time, saying the county government does not currently owe any money to the workers. At the same time, the Kiambu county government has begun investigations into the death of an 11-month-old boy linked to the alleged negligence of medical doctors at Igegania level four hospital in Gatundu North.
