In this video lecture we have studied about the composition of cell membrane and structure of cell membrane. The structure and function of cell membrane which is also known as the structure and function of plasma membrane is an important topic in 9 class biology chapter 4 cells and tissues. The composition, structure and function of cell membrane is explained by different scientists with the help of different models. The most accepted model of cell membrane or plasma membrane is fluid mosaic model. The fluid mosaic model was proposed by Singer and Nicolson in 1972. According to the fluid mosaic model cell membrane is composed of lipids in which proteins and a small amount of carbohydrates are present. The lipids of cell membrane (plasma membrane) are phospholipids which are arranged in two layers called lipid bilayer. The proteins of cell membrane which are present on one side of cell membrane called peripheral proteins or extrinsic proteins. And the proteins which completely pass from one side of cell membrane to the other side are called integral proteins or intrinsic proteins. Carbohydrates are either attached to proteins and form glycoproteins or attached to lipids and form glycolipids. The chemical composition and structure of cell membrane has been explained by Sabar Khan according to fluid mosaic model in Pashto language with diagram. The cell membrane or plasma membrane is very important topic for the exam point of view and is present in 9 class biology and 11 class biology. But here we have discussed the advanced lecture about the cell membrane. we have also discussed and explained diffusion, osmosis and active transport.
