SALT LAKE CITY (KUTV) — A 2News Investigation found the Utah Division of Child and Family Services did not believe the observations of a police officer and declined to open a case into reported child abuse. Our investigation into the firing of a Springville police officer uncovered a practice within DCFS that shows in at least one case, they did not believe the word of Officer Kati Powell, who suspected abuse of a child by his father. This has the chair of the Child Welfare Legislative Oversight Panel demanding answers.
