TRAIN DRIVER'S VIEW: Working the local on a cold winter day

The Voss Line used to be a narrow gauge independent line from 1883 until 1909 when it merged with the Bergen Line. The Voss Line was constructed as a narrow gauge (1067mm) and this proved to be a challenge since the Bergen line was being constructed with normal gauge (1435mm). So, one night in August 1904 they converted the line to normal gauge. During the preparations for the merge, several tunnels had to be widened and many curves had to be straightened. The remanence of the old layout can be seen on several places on the trip. Today marks the winter solstice. The "shortest" day of the year. We will finally have longer and longer days. Sunrise 9:42am, sunset 3:22pm.
