Saint Faustina received one of the most important revelations of modern Catholic spirituality: the Hour of Mercy. This revelation did not come through imagination or symbolism, but from a direct and literal vision of Christ at three o’clock in the afternoon. In paragraph 699 of her Diary, she records Jesus instructing her to pray at this exact hour, because it is the moment He died on the Cross. Christ told her that at three o’clock, His mercy is opened “for the whole world,” in a way unlike any other time of day. Faustina saw Christ radiant yet marked by His wounds, with two great rays—pale and red—flowing from His Heart. These rays represent the blood and water from His pierced side: the sacraments that give life to the Church. Jesus told her, with extraordinary clarity, that no request made at this hour—when united to His Passion—would be refused. Faustina understood this as a spiritual law, not a poetic expression. She wrote that even a brief moment of turning the heart toward Christ’s death carries immense power. Jesus asked her especially to pray for sinners at this hour, calling it “a moment of great mercy.” Faustina rearranged her entire daily life around 3 PM, stopping everything—even chores—to answer Christ’s request. Her fidelity to this hour transformed her spiritually and deepened her union with Christ’s suffering. She discovered that the Hour of Mercy is not only about asking for help, but about participating in the salvation of souls. Christ revealed that mercy triumphs over justice at this precise moment every day. Faustina believed that countless souls, especially the dying, receive grace through prayers made at three o’clock. She saw this devotion as a divine remedy for the spiritual coldness of modern times. The Hour of Mercy is not a devotion created by the Church—it was commanded directly by Christ. Faustina emphasized that trust is the vessel that receives the grace of this hour. When a soul prays with confidence, the rays of Christ’s Heart flow into it with extraordinary power. She also understood that forgiveness multiplies the effects of this devotion. As her life progressed, she realized the Hour of Mercy would be essential for future generations. She believed that this simple daily prayer could change the destiny of souls, families, and nations. The Hour of Mercy is a daily doorway opened by Christ Himself—an invitation to enter the mystery of His sacrifice. Faustina’s message is clear: at this hour, heaven refuses nothing. And if you embrace this devotion, it will not only change how you pray—it will change who you are.
