Today, we’re flying United Airlines UA1 from San Francisco (SFO) to Singapore(SIN) in Polaris Business Class onboard the Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner. I tried it so you won't have to. Starting the journey at SFO, taking in the airy vibes of the terminal and visiting the Polaris Lounge – voted the world’s best, though our experience with the crowded buffet and salty food tells a different story. This flight features United’s flagship Polaris Business Class, a 48-seat cabin offering excellent privacy in seat 5L and high-end Saks Fifth Avenue bedding. The 16” HD screen provides a solid entertainment selection with plenty of content, even if the hardware feels a bit like a throwback to the 90s. Meal service was a highlight in some areas but a letdown in others; while the signature blue tablecloths and clever golf-ball salt and pepper shakers were a nice touch, the main beef dish was incredibly salty. However, the service remained attentive throughout, and the apple tart was a standout culinary triumph. Overall, the experience was a reliable way to cross the Pacific, offering great sleep comfort and friendly service, even if the catering and lounge refinement still have room to grow.
