I will bring the land to desolation, and your enemies who dwell in it shall be astonished at it. I will scatter you among the nations and draw out a sword after you; your land shall be desolate and your cities waste. Then the land shall enjoy its sabbaths as long as it lies desolate and you are in your enemies’ land; then the land shall rest and enjoy its sabbaths. As long as it lies desolate it shall rest for the time it did not rest on your sabbaths when you dwelt in it. Leviticus 26: 32-35 (NKJV) For there is hope for a tree, If it is cut down, that it will sprout again, and that its tender shoots will not cease. Though its root may grow old in the earth, and its stump may die in the ground, yet at the scent of water it will bud And bring forth branches like a plant. Job 14 : 7 - 9 (NKJV) *How the "Vibrant Resilience" compilation came to be...* A young boy hammers out a tune on a vibraphone. Simple but catchy, his friends and parents gather around they recognize his prodigious talent. The makings of a jazz virtuoso? Here is the tune that he played a pure instrumental piece The boy eventually found a friend in a Brazilian guitarist and together busk on the streets to the cheers of the crowds that find it so refreshing that this duo is a vibraphone - bossa nova combo. Here is the recording of it taken from the aux in to their amplifiers. Sounds like a steel drum at certain points instead of a vibraphone at certain sections- is this an artifact of the recording or was it the style of the music? (Reggae-like). The two musicians eventually form a trio playing Brazilian jazz with their own unique sound that often showcase the virtuosity of all three instruments. The vibraphone/piano with its unique idiomatic style in jazz. The Brazilian bossa nova/fusion- breezy feel to chill with each strum and pluck of the guitar. As well as the cosmopolitan tone of the saxophone weaving a relaxing and uplifting line through it all. Their lead track from their debut album is entitled, "A Sunday Casual Stroll Through the Beach Front" is featured here in this compilation. Iconic for its cool jazz sound and the extended drum solo by a drummer that would eventually be a fixture in most of their albums and recordings. After twenty years of playing as a trio, they eventually went their separate ways and recorded many solo albums of their own. One day they decided on a reunion, playing as a trio again in one of the sets for the PJ Jazz Festival. Some of their old fans remember their humble beginnings, busking as well as their debut album. This would be the culmination of their combined virtuosity-each a master of their respective instrument: the vibraphone, the Brazilian acoustic guitar, and the saxophone. Unfortunately this version (extended recorded version here) is overshadowed by the trumpet solo (an overzealous new talent?). Nonetheless the trio understands his being carried away by excitement of the time. They were more thrilled with the reunion as a trio. Also in the excitement of it all, the two soloists- the pianist and the trumpeter- took center stage. To the chagrin of the trio's fan. The improvisation morphed into a big band/swing rendition of their number. What a turn of events. Eventually close to the curtain call and at the encore, the crowds requested for a solo from the vibraphone maestro- backed by his two friends- the guitarist and saxophonist. What a way to cap an already wonderful night of Brazilian jazz, bossa nova, fusion (stride and swing ?). As part of the end credits, the festival session was capped with a full-blown Bossa Nova performance.
