Welcome back to another episode of The Defying All Odds Podcast and part of our educational series! DR. PHILIP STIEG is the Margaret and Robert J. Hariri Professor of Neurological Surgery at Weill Cornell Medical College and Neurosurgeon-in-Chief of NewYork-Presbyterian/Weill Cornell Medical Center. Dr. Stieg, whose expertise is in cerebrovascular disorders, brain tumors, skull base surgery, and traumatic brain injury, is a widely published author and internationally known lecturer, and has been consistently named one of the nation’s Top Doctors by Castle Connolly. In 2023 he was celebrated as the 40th winner of the Maurice Greenberg Distinguished Service Award, the highest honor at Weill Cornell Medicine and NewYork-Presbyterian, which recognizes an outstanding individual for exceptional and longtime service. He is a dedicated advocate for brain health and brain education, and to that end he is active on multiple social media platforms as well as the host of the podcast and webinar series called This Is Your Brain With Dr. Phil Stieg. He has served as the President of the Brain Tumor Foundation and President of the New York board of the American Heart and Stroke Association. He is a past Chairman of the Joint Section of Cerebrovascular Surgery of AANS/CNS and past President of the Society of University Neurosurgeons. Dr. Stieg provides his expertise in trauma as a sideline consultant for the National Football League and as a consulting neurosurgeon to the New York Giants, and he is also an advisor to the Department of Defense on traumatic brain injury. With “This Is Your Brain,” Dr. Stieg has created a top-rated podcast to educate his listeners on all aspects of brain health and maximizing brain function. He also has a robust social media presence and was recently named to the list of top 100 social media influencers in neurosurgery on Twitter, in a paper published in the journal Interdisciplinary Neurosurgery. Dr. Stieg was born in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, in 1952. He received his B.S. in 1974 from the University of Wisconsin at Madison, his Ph.D. in Anatomy and Neuroscience from Albany Medical College of Union University in 1980, and his M.D. from the Medical College of Wisconsin in 1983. He trained at the University of Texas Southwestern Medical School (Parkland Memorial Hospital) with Drs. Duke S. Samson and H.
