Video History Lesson: Nothing says “adventure” like plotting points on a graph. Well, at least when there is treasure on the line, it's actually not so bad. At least that is what our two friends, Jamal and Lily, found out in the video you're watching now. So basically this whole thing started when Lily was like “Well, we are stuck on this deserted island and don't even know how we got here, let’s try and follow these coordinates!” And Jamal sarcastically quipped, “Great, just what I wanted to do with my day off—math homework." Lily was like, "Jamal. Hold up. It's a lot better than dying here on this deserted beach without any good reading material like retired issues of Super Lady magazine to keep us entertained." Jamal, being an avid reader of dated back-issues of Super Lazy magazine was thus convinced that Lily was right. Her reasoning was tighter than a squirrel's grip on a stolen acorn. Enough, said, Jamal though, It was coordinate plane time, baby. Do or die! The two traipsed off into the heart of the jungle, swatting mosquitoes, and finally stumbled into this cave-like underground thing with fangs bore at the entrance. It would have been terrifying if Lily and Jamal weren't such historical enthusiasts of macabre elements of style. Classic vampire vibes. Nice touch, nature. But the smell inside was another story altogether. It was something almost impossible to describe. They couldn't quite place what it smelled like, but explorers of the ancient past have recorded that it smelled like American Cheese cooked slowly melting away on a sun-beaten truck tire - which to me just sounds like the way your average cave is gonna smell. But hey, at least they had torches! Anyway, that was pretty much the whole story other than them uncovering an ancient treasure that had been buried for thousands of years but still inexplicably contained smartphones from 1997 and a bunch of Super Lady magazines. It was really anticlimactic, to be honest. Actually, wait, that's not exactly the whole story. My main point is that everybody learned a ton about ordered pairs and how to graph coordinate points with both positive and negative numbers. Jamal went on to design video game worlds armed with his newfound knowledge of graphing and Lily retired at age 13 because there was a super-rare Super Lady magazine edition that was worth over a million dollars. Believe it or not, she didn't even sell it. She'd just rent it out for $2,000 a month to Instagrammers who thought it would make them look cool. Now that's smart!
