Tutor 3.0: We have heard all sorts of things in recent days, including fears, alarmism, hoaxes and half-truths. There are already those who are crying conspiracy and those who are ready to swear that it is a new ploy to make money by harassing poor motorists. But how are things really? There was a need to clarify, once and for all. And, to really do that, we need authoritative and incontrovertible sources. So we went directly to the primary source. That is, the Highway Police, which has been administering and using the tutor for years now. With their precious help, we are trying to understand the whole truth about this new technology, putting the facts back in order. The Tutor 3.0 supports and enhances the existing Tutor, introducing more advanced technologies for detecting the average speed of vehicles. It is currently active on 26 motorway sections, including the A1 Milan-Naples, the A9 Lainate-Como-Chiasso, the A11 Florence-Pisa Nord, the A14 Bologna-Taranto and the A27 Mestre-Belluno. Tutor 3.0 works similarly to the previous system, calculating the average speed of vehicles between two portals along the route. However, compared to the previous version, it uses high-resolution cameras and radar, eliminating the loops positioned in the asphalt and ensuring greater detection precision. In addition to measuring speed, the system has been designed to identify additional violations such as wrong-way driving, improper use of lanes, overloading of heavy vehicles and violations of the safety distance, although these features are not yet active. Tutor 3.0 is also able to detect the license plates of foreign vehicles, although the procedure for notifying fines to foreign drivers is more complex and takes longer. For now, therefore, the Tutor 3.0 is used exclusively for detecting the average speed of vehicles in transit between two portals, exactly as the traditional Tutor has always done and continues to do. It is not possible to know, at the moment, when the Tutor 3.0 will also begin to detect other violations of the code for which it was designed. The introduction of this system is part of a plan to improve road safety. Since 2005, the year of the introduction of the Tutor, fatal accidents on the routes monitored by the Tutor have decreased by 55%, demonstrating the effectiveness of this technology in preventing accidents. The main objective of the Tutor 3.0, as explained in the video, is not to fine motorists, but to ensure greater safety on Italian motorways, promoting compliance with the rules of the highway code.
