Chocolate Monkey King: Ukrainian confectioners create 17kg candy masterpiece

Candy making is no monkey business in Ukraine’s eastern city of Kharkiv. A 17 kilogram chocolate monkey king has been molded from pure chocolate. It took painstaking work and dedication, Ukrainian confectioners made over a dozen unsuccessful chocolate models before finally constructing the sweet masterpiece. He is worth more than USD 400. Serhiy Stepanenko, director of confectionary factory: “ For almost two months our development director practically lived with this monkey in our factory. We made the form ourselves. Trust me this is very difficult because chocolate hardens quickly. We used 20 kg of chocolate and made the form manually. We really wanted to make a monkey.” No additives or preservatives were added confectioners say, only cocoa beans, cocoa butter and sugar were used. The monkey king is currently on display, ((04.25-04.30)) the sign beside him reminds customers not to touch or bite him, while he awaits his new owner.
