Mixing a beach vacation with a visit to a unique historic site- what could be better? With the Cape Henry Lighthouse in Virginia Beach, you don’t have to choose! The first federally-funded public works project of the newly formed United States government, the Lighthouse was authorized by George Washington and overseen by Alexander Hamilton. It is situated near the “First Landing” site where English settlers first set foot on their way to settle in Jamestown. In 1930 an act of Congress deeded the Lighthouse and surrounding land to the care of Preservation Virginia. We endeavor to make it as easily accessible to the public as possible while being located on an active military base. There is a shuttle system in place to transport visitors from Gate 8 of Joint Expeditionary Base Little Creek-Fort Story to Cape Henry Lighthouse. Guests must have a valid I.D. to visit. Special tours and community activities are always ongoing at this amazing site. We’ll see you where history happened: https://preservationvirginia.org/.../....
