Here's a segment from episode 011 of WUWTM. Kosey was thinking about how some of the most lauded artists in underground hip-hop seem to be fairly serious expressing the general existential dread and historical ills of the black experience more than elements of joy. Artists often rhyming about topics that lend themselves towards critical thought about the black experience in the imperial core and less "whimsical" elements of fun and joy. we contrast the ideas of high art with what might be considered its negation in popular art. why so serious?
