Scallops with Fishtek Marine - Zoom Lecture

Rarely do EUREKA moments come along in fisheries. But this year, the UK government backed a team lead by Fishtek Marine who discovered a global first – a new low-impact fishing method for scallops. Scallop Potting. Their study proved that scallops can be attracted to swim inside conventional crab and lobster pots lured simply by LED lights. This novel method was designed and is continuing to be developed collaboratively by the gear technologists at Fishtek Marine, UK fishers, local pot makers, and scientists at Exeter University. This talk aims to provide an overview of how Fishtek Marine stumbled onto this finding, how this project has developed and our goals for the future.
