This video will show, in detail, how to improvise a tourniquet, if you are faced with life-threatening bleeding. However, we recommend using a commercial tourniquet as a first option, if it is available to you. If there is only one person providing aid, and you don't have a commercial tourniquet, focus on applying pressure until help arrives. To learn when to apply pressure, wrap a wound, or apply a tourniquet, watch this video: • Training Video: How to Stop the Bleed - На... . If there is one more person with you who can help, one of you should apply pressure while the other gathers tourniquet materials. What to do to stop bleeding? To make your own tourniquet, you will need three things. First: a band of cloth that can somewhat stretch. You can cut a shirt, pants, or a sheet, etc. This material should be able to stretch somewhat but should also be able to compress the bleeding site. Second: an item that can be used as a torsion device. You can use a metal pen, chopstick, cutlery, etc. Third: an item that can help hold the torsion device securely in place. For example, a zip tie, a hair tie, etc. Cut a T-shirt or other available stretchy cloth in a rectangle about one meter long and eight to ten centimeters wide. This will serve as a constricting band. Fourth: Wrap and tightly tie the cloth about seven to eight centimeters above the wound. Leave enough slack on both ends. Then using a torsion device such as a handle or stick, twist the cloth ends around until you have started to control the bleeding. Remember that this will hurt. You will then use the locking device such as a hair tie, to hold the torsion device securely in place. If the tourniquet does not fully stop the bleeding, you may need to apply a second tourniquet above the first one on the same injured extremity. If the bleeding still cannot be stopped, do everything possible to apply direct pressure or have someone else apply direct pressure and then seek medical attention immediately. #savealife This video is solely for instructional purposes.
