Alhambra Performing Arts Center presents Flamenco Alhambra on Sat Sept 12, 2015 featuring star of stage and screen Inesita and her troupe. Inesita is a Spanish dance artist who has performed in all-solo concerts around the world including Madrid, London, Liverpool, Paris, New York City, Mexico City and Valletta, Malta. American tours have taken her to communities and colleges from coast to coast. Born in New York City, she came with her parents to Los Angeles where she was drawn to the Spanish dance because of its elegance and complexity of rhythms. Further studies took her to Mexico and inevitably to Spain. There she studied under the legendary El Estampio and Regla Ortega, of the famous Ortega family and a number of other renowned teachers. She has danced in every possible venue throughout an extensive career in concerts, films, musical theater, and cabaret where her vast range in all aspects of Spanish dance including pure flamenco has been showcased. She danced in concert presented by the Southern California Baroque Association in connection with the Harpsichord Center in 2001 and 2005 where she was presented in all solo programs featuring her own dance pieces set to the Sonatas of Domenico Scarlatti. She is classically trained on the piano and harpsichord. Tina Love, "La Nubia", began her flamenco journey in the year 2000, after moving to Santa Barbara from New York City with some years of ballet and modern dance training behind her. From 2001-2005 she performed with Pacific Action Dance Theater under the direction of her first flamenco teacher Ana Galindo. Over the years she has taken classes with various teachers in California: Linda Vega, Timo Nuñez, Pamela Lourant, Paloma Rios, Antoinette Lopez, Ryan Zermeno, and Manuel Gutierrez. She has also taken many workshops with artists from Spain touring the United States. Tina has hosted guest teachers from Spain to teach in Santa Barbara, including Lakshmi Basile and Concha Vargas. In February 2013 she co-produced Romance Andaluz featuring Lakshmi Basile at The Plaza Playhouse Theater (Carpinteria, CA). In 2008 she established "Love Flamenco” a group that performs during Santa Barbara's Old Spanish Days and for various events. Tina is also an independent filmmaker, the writer/director and editor of several film projects: documentary shorts, features and narrative feature films. Her next film project is a flamenco dance movie, which she wrote: “The Red Shoes.” Stamen Wetzel is an experienced traditional flamenco guitarist. He actively participates as accompanist for flamenco dancers and singers, playing for performances and classes. Among the artists he has worked with are Luisa Triana, Margo, Chinin de Triana, Dolores Fernandez, Inesita, Teo Morca, Pepita Sevilla, Miguel de Malaga, Miguel Bernal, and the Maria Elena Vazquez Flamenco Company. Stamen studied for many years under Jeronimo Villarino, who was born in Spain in 1899 (de Rio Tinto) as his primary instructor. He immigrated to USA in 1919. Villarino was guitarist for the legendary figures of Flamenco such as Antonia Merce, Vicente Escudero, Carmen Amaya, Rosario and Antonio, Inesita and many others. Stamen has also studied with Benito Palacios, Manolo Vazquez, and Paco Arroyo.
