MTB Switzerland - Zermatt: Riding the Hobbit and YoYo Trails to Zermatt

This is a full run POV starting right at the Schwarzsee Lift, and running down the Hobbit Trail to Stafel, then tracks and trails to teh Zmutt Dam which we crossed to get to the second half of the YoYo trail, which we followed into Zermatt. At the time of riding (July 2024) the top half of teh YoYo trail had been closed due to landslides across it and so this was the best way to enjoy some of this lovely flowy and scenic trail into Zermatt. We rode these trails a couple of times, but I was missing footage of a small section to finish the YoYo trail and so the film ends in the rain - we didn't suddenly hit bad weather! - it just rained on one day of our trip. This is one of a set of POV films from around the town of Zermatt high in the Swiss alps. Trails are a mix of purpose built trails and paths indicated as bike routes, and just mountain trails. On one week in late July 2024 we spent 3 days riding the best trails around Zermatt, and around Aletsch – these are the Zermatt Trails. The trip was built around 2 photos: one of riding with the Matterhorn in the background and one of riding high above a Glacier. This trip was about visiting these places, and riding the best trails we could find. Zermatt totally came through on the plan – with the Matterhorn initially covered in cloud, soon making a surprise appearance, and looming over us for the remainder of our time there – Aletsch likewise gave us awesome riding and lots of Glacier. In nature the Zermatt trails are more flowy, with a few notable exceptions and if you want the views as well, then Zermatt is your place. Aletsch gave us views galore, but the trails were definitely in two tiers, with mountain trails and views on the top tier and EWS worthy steep gnarr for 1000m on the lower tier – if gnarly is your thing, then you should definitely check out the Aletsch collection.
