While I was writing my PhD thesis on the sustainability of small manufacturing in Australia - focusing on the Surfboard Industry, I hoped to make a video of my progress. My friend Misha Robb-Mass had just graduated with a degree in film and had moved to Noosa. He couldn't find film employment so I strongly suggest he work with me on this project. The movie was finished and played at the Noosa Surf Film Festival to a big crowd in 2016 (I think). Since then the final copy of the movie was lost and all I have is a later draft. Also, from this movie Misha has had plenty of filming work ending in traveling around the world with the WSL. This movie is important because it shows how our individual identities are formed from local culture, which is formed from culture creators like surfboard makers. The value the surfboard maker receives from their work is measured in many ways brining a sense of wealth, but they will not get financially wealthy from their artisanal work.
