Media veteran Ita Buttrose announced new ABC chair | ABC News

Ita Buttrose, who landed her first job in journalism at the age of 15 in 1957, has been announced as the new chair of the ABC, five months after Justin Milne resigned from the position. Ms Buttrose is widely regarded as a trailblazer for women in the media. She established Cleo magazine, was the first woman to edit a major metropolitan newspaper in Australia, and founded a publishing company. She says she will do everything in her power to protect the ABC's independence and to ensure a good working relationship with the managing director.
