Traveling St. Mary's Georgia Area/Crooked River State Park/Fort Clinch State Park

After five amazing weeks, we thought we were saying goodbye to Florida — but nope! We crossed the border into St. Marys, Georgia, and discovered a whole new world. Join us as we check out Crooked River State Park, a beautiful 500-acre park nestled on the banks of the Crooked River. We explore the nearby quaint town of St. Marys — Georgia’s second oldest city — enjoy stunning sunrises, and dive into local history including the McIntosh Sugarworks (Tabby Ruins) and the fascinating Fort Clinch State Park with its Civil War history and incredible oak-lined roads. We also visit the Kings Bay Naval Submarine Base Museum, the East Coast home of the Ohio-class ballistic missile submarines, and share our experiences hunting for shark teeth, sampling local food, and navigating tricky weather and tide conditions. Unfortunately, our plans to visit Cumberland Island National Seashore fell through due to poor timing and weather — but we still found plenty to love here! Don’t forget to watch for our tick and ant battle updates (yikes!), and stick around as we continue our coastal journey toward Savannah, Georgia.
