Over two months since the last episode of my look back at the Xbox 360's many JRPGs. Crikey. A few things contributed to the sheer length of time it took to get this video out: the school year ended I worked summer school Sometimes its just hard to be motivated to do something creative like this after several repeated months of intense stress and whatnot I ended up taking a week off to escape to some real vacation last week, and finally came back with the resolve to wrap this episode up and put it out for the world, and man I am GLAD that I did. This third entry in my series on the JRPGs of the Xbox 360 represents a bit of a shift in style for me - I took a lot of feedback from the first two episodes and combined it with a massive expansion of the format because covering Star Ocean: The Last Hope meant that I needed to start with some context on the franchise as a whole. Thus we arrive at my first hour plus long video essay. I had a really good time sinking my teeth into the Star Ocean franchise, and while I don't necessarily feel that any one of them is a brilliant all-timer, they're a fascinating case study into how a developer can apply feedback and evolve their own franchise over time. I have an immense amount of respect for the work that Tri-Ace has done with the franchise, and had a generally great time playing The Last Hope to completion for this series.
