🏞 Shenandoah National Park runs along the Blue Ridge Mountains in Virginia. It contains over 500 miles of trails (including part of the Appalachian Trail), and scenic mountain views. The Skyline forms the 105 mile backbone of the park, and you could spend a day just driving and stopping at overlooks (like we did!). 🥾 Stony Man Trail - If you squint really hard, you can spy the Stony Man’s face in the outline of the rocks. The Stony Man hike (1.6mi roundtrip) led us up to his nose? chin? And in our opinion was the best bang for your buck hike! The views were absolutely amazing. 💦 Secret Swimming Hole - During our research of the park, Victoria found a secret swimming hole location! The hike is 2 miles roundtrip and pretty easy, except for the humungous black bear that walked across our path! Check out our tips to deter bears/ what to do when confronted with a bear. The swimming hole was worth the danger, and we had it all to ourselves! There were three tiered pools, and supposedly a sliding rock when water levels are high enough. Coordinates: (38°47'22.2"N 78°19'18.5”W) ⚠️ Please leave this place cleaner than when you came. Locals fear places like this becoming more popular and the traffic and trash it brings. Be respectful! Upper Hawksbill Trail - 2.1 miles, highest peak in the park (4029 feet). Dark Hallow Falls Trails - 1.4 miles, 70ft tiered waterfall, popular swimming hole 🏕 Slate Lick Dispersed Camping - We absolutely loved this dispersed camping spot. Camping was free, the park was free (with our national park pass), so cost of our trip consisted of gas and food! There are quite a few spots big enough for big rigs, but don’t go to far and find yourself in a difficult turnaround situation! 👋 Hi! We are Thomas and Victoria, and we have been on the road as full-time RV'ers for 3 years. In that time, we have lived in 7 states and visited countless more! We love finding nature’s hidden gems, cute quirky towns and whatever fun activities we can find in the area. We are joined by our Adventure Puppies – Oreo and Barley – in our Kodiak Ultimate travel trailer. We aspire to be both fun and informative, and we hope you get some value out of our full-time RV living experience!
