OEM Parts Discontinued? Today's video focuses on how to find other parts that will work, when OEM & Aftermarket parts are discontinued! So I have a 2004 Bombardier DS90 2 stroke ATV that I'm rebuilding the carb on (Stay tuned for that video!) The float in the carburetor was cracked & unfortunately that part is discontinued by both the OEM as well as the Aftermarket manufacturer! The issue with finding replacement parts (When OEM & Aftermarket parts are discontinued) is the fact that those parts use different part numbers! So when you're searching for that specific part, it will be almost impossible to find! So here's my method; I 1st try to find another machine (such as a Dirt Bike or ATV) that uses the same engine, then get a model number for that. Once you have some info on that machine, you can then go ahead & search for a parts diagram, under that model number. This is important, because without a model number (Or year & make of machine) you won't get anywhere! After some searching, I was able to find an ATV (made by a different manufacturer) that used the same engine & carburetor! That ATV was a 2004 Polaris Predator 90 & although the Float looked slightly different, it worked perfectly! Bombardier Float #: A16118116000 Polaris Float #: 0450976 Carb Rebuild Kit: Kimpex 209114 So to recap; I was searching for a Plastic Float, for a Mikuni Carburetor, that was originally off a Bombardier DS 90. I searched for the 90cc engine. That lead me to a Polaris Predator 90 (same engine & carb) which then allowed me to find a parts diagram, which listed the Float under the Polaris Parts List. Once I had the Polaris Part # I was able to order the part. It's a lot of work, but in the end, I was able to get a quality replacement part! As stated in the video, I could have purchased a cheap China Carb for about $56 (then use the float from that carb as a replacement) but the quality just isn't the same! I spent $65 on the new Float & you'll notice the Polaris Float is black (instead of beige) & made out of a thicker plastic material. This should prevent it from cracking in the future! Stay tuned to Eliminator Performance, where I'll be doing a video on the rebuild of this carb, as well as getting this machine up & running again! _______________________________________________ If you enjoyed the video, hit LIKE & SUBSCRIBE!
