In this talk, Dr. Faries discusses a leading treatment option for patients battling ocular melanoma. This talk was delivered at the 2017 Eye Am Not Alone (EANA) patient and caregivers conference at Stanford University. More information is available at http://ocularmelanoma.org/. -- Dr. Faries came to JWCI for a surgical oncology fellowship in 2002. He remained on the institute’s faculty after graduation and led several therapeutic clinical trials during that time. He was then recruited to Yale University, where he was appointed associate professor of surgery. In 2011, Dr. Donald Morton, JWCI's founder and leader of its melanoma program at the time, asked Dr. Faries to return to ensure completion of important research projects and take over leadership of the fellowship program. Dr. Faries oversees clinical trials that include over 6,000 patients around the world and has been awarded substantial research funding by the National Cancer Institute. He was the first surgeon in California to perform minimally invasive inguinal lymph node dissections.He established a Food and Drug Administration- certified cellular immunotherapy lab, and has published over 150 manuscripts, abstracts and book chapters. He has given invited lectures in nine countries on three continents. -- Steve has been providing ocular prosthetic services since 1975. He specializes in the manufacturing of custom ocular prosthetics, scleral cover shells, custom maxilla-facila prosthetics as well as orbital growth management of infants and small children. He was a faculty staff member at Stanford University Medical Center and School of Medicine from 1992-2000. He is currently a faculty staff member at California Pacific Medical Center’s Department of Ophthalmology, San Francisco, CA.
