Formosa TV has opened a memorial to the late Chai Trong-rong, a former DPP legislator and the founder of the TV company. A lifelong democracy advocate and the founder of the "Association for a Plebiscite", Chai passed away at the age of 79 over four years ago. Many of his friends and political figures, including former Vice president Annette Lu, were at a ceremony today, where a statue of the late politician was unveiled. Friends of the late founder of FTV, Chai Trong-rong, pull on red ribbons to unveil a bronze statue. The event gave them a chance to reconnect with their old friend.Kuo Bei-hongFTV ChairmanWe prepared very well, so now we want to ask Dr. Chai Trong-rong to enter the building. We’ve moved all of his things from his old FTV office at Bade Road, keeping them in their original arrangement.Wang Ming-yuFTV PresidentHe once told me, to find his successor he needed someone who thought the way he did, with an entrepreneurial spirit, who could manage a company, who was good with money. He said, “That’s Kuo Bei-hong”.Annette LuFormer Vice PresidentHe wanted to be in politics, and to found FTV too, and at first I thought, “Is that really possible? Can we raise the funds we need with people just donating sums of NT$10,000 a time?” But we did it, so he was a Taiwanese trailblazer.FTV has set out Chai’s old office as it used to look, with a window at one side displaying his trainers and the pen used by former President Chen Shui-bian to sign the Referendum Law.Tien Tsai-tingFTV Honorary ChairmanChai Trong-rong worked so hard for Taiwan. If we can amplify that spirit then I think that we will see our dawn here in Taiwan very soon. The artefacts of Chai’s life and work are also a record of Taiwan’s arduous road towards democracy.
