In the fall of 2015, social media picked up on the case of Gerod Roth, a white Atlanta resident whose selfie with a black co-worker’s 3- year old led to a string of racially-tinged comments attached to it. Roth's friends on Facebook called the black child a “slave” and compared him to a key slave character from the movie “Roots” — Kunta Kinte, whose slave owner changed his name to Toby after he was kidnapped from Africa. “But Massuh, I dindu nuffin,” someone wrote. Another: “He is feral.” The resulting firestorm left Roth without a job, while his co worker Sydney Shelton, who is represented on the show by National Civil Rights Attorney, Benjamin L. Crump, to deal with the emotional fallout. Here is Mr. Crump's opening statement.
