An awesome 'track' day, or rather IAM Skills day on the track, at Thruxton motor racing circuit in Andover, just off the A303 in Hampshire, United Kingdom. Me and a few work mates, friends from West Sussex IAM and my brother spent the day brushing up on our riding skills. The day is broken up in to six separate sessions and in each session the instructor leads you out for a lap and you each take it in turns on the front to practice what we're working on for that session. In the last two sessions it all comes together with the opportunity to do some controlled safe overtaking. We follow the standing IAM riding method, which is also used by police traffic officers - IPSGA. This stands for Information, Position, Speed, Gear and Acceleration sense. On the approach to any hazzard, which is really anything presenting a risk such as a corner, traffic lights, cyclist etc, you think through each item and make plan. You think about what might reasonably be expected to happen and also what could be out of sight but still possible. This approach is designed to keep you safe alongside other road users. The day was brilliant. It was dry. The instructors are very experienced and give a lot of feed back and the food at the circuit is also very good. The best part of all was that there were plenty of places to fill up with fuel along the way and take a pee break - this is increasingly essential for me these days with a small tank. Enjoy the video and please post any comments and feedback. #SkillsDays23
