In the occupied West Bank’s Balata Refugee Camp, families had prepared to celebrate the release of loved ones as part of a new prisoner exchange deal. But several names were removed from the final list without explanation, leaving many devastated. Discussions over who would be freed continued until the last minute, resulting in last-minute changes. In Jenin, another family watched celebrations from afar, their relative still held in solitary confinement. He was among those who once escaped a high-security Israeli prison in 2021 but was recaptured soon after. Many families say they’ve lost hope of reunion as no further exchanges are planned.
