Turn on captions for some extra comments/strats. Raiden DX (雷電DX) is some kind of arrange version of Raiden II, the sequel to the famous game Raiden by Seibu. It features 3 different modes: Training is a long but easy stage for beginners. Novice features the first 5 stages of the game in an arranged version (despite the name, it's a decent challenge of average difficulty for an arcade game). Finally, Expert is some kind of Raiden II arrange mode. Bosses are the only similar things (they still have different patterns) and stage design is completely different. You can consider it to be a brand new game. Expert also has a Special stage: to access it in the Japanese versions, you have to no-miss no-bomb the whole game, which is super hard to do. Apparently, the requirement was removed in the international versions and you automatically access it after beating the 8th stage (even if you died and bombed dozens of times, continued and so on). You get 1 million bonus points if you beat the Special Stage. The game loops infinitely, each loop being harder than the previous. You don't get any score extend, but you can get one additional life in Stage 4 by destroying some bunker (you'll do it without thinking about it), but only if you no-missed up to that point. Anyway, recovery in this game is extremely hard. You have little hope of going back to full power the regular way by collecting tons of power-ups because the rank stays high and your starting shot is terrible. It takes many upgrades to stand a chance to survive, and it takes too much time to get those, so your best hope is a P item bringing you back to full power instantly. If you survived for a long time, the game will give you a P item when you die, and several other power-ups if you collected a fairy before dying. This is pretty much your only hope to recover. If you have missiles, the P also powers them up to max, so ideally you want to collect one missile item before getting the P. Otherwise, only your shot will be powered up and without missiles it's actually not that good. There are 3 different weapons, 2 missiles, and 2 bombs. With that said, the only things you'll need are the red shot, the homing missiles, and the yellow bomb (cluster), with a few exceptions. You want the blue shot against the Stage 6 boss as it makes it much easier to deal with it. One trick is to not destroy the first item carrier in Stage 2 to modify the item order, that way you'll get a weapon item just before the stage 6 boss. You can obviously do it with any item carrier, but that one is easy to keep alive since nothing else happens at that point of the stage. Regarding missiles, when you start a run it's better to use the nuclear (M) missiles because low-power homing missiles are worthless. Once you're fully-powered, you can switch to homing missiles as they're overpowered and will destroy everything. Regarding bombs, in most cases cluster is better than the thermonuclear one (red) since it lasts longer and goes off instantly. It's less powerful but you make up for it by being able to pointblank for a longer period of time. You can choose what bomb you begin with: when you select a mode, the lightning bolt in the logo will change color and alternate between red and yellow. The color when you select your mode will determine which bomb you'll get. 2P side ship is faster when moving diagonally, making the game easier and the preferred choice. There is some weird phenomenom when pointblanking a boss with autofire. Sometimes there won't be any gap between your ship and where the shots connect, and sometimes there will be a gap. When there are no gaps, you will get a faster autofire rate and therefore deal much more damage, but it seems impossible to get it every time, making some boss strats unreliable. I bomb some bosses when I get the slower rate. This was honestly an extremely weird run. Some mistakes early on which are understandable but made me waste bombs, a solid stage 7, but an extremely silly mistake against the boss. It's REALLY easy to dodge the volley I died to, but I was misaligned for some reason. Then, after another death in Stage 8 (I really needed missiles), extremely clutch gameplay to reach the final boss and I don't even know how I survived, frankly some on the best improvisation I ever did (got a bit lucky at times). Thankfully, bosses doesn't have a lot of life if you fight them with a weak weapon, so I was able to destroy the final boss easily. I chose to not get the fairy on Stage 1, because the extra items she drops after death always messed me up in previous runs. Ironically, they could probably have been useful in this run since my first death happened at a spot where I could easily choose which items to pick, but it's not like I could have known. 00:00 Intro 0:22 Stage 1 3:44 Stage 2 7:48 Stage 3 12:07 Stage 4 16:50 Stage 5 21:56 Stage 6 26:59 Stage 7 31:00 Stage 8 36:08 Ending and Game over
