Well, my friend Donnie Rash hit me with this one and I’ve played Iron Maiden maybe 5 times along the way – and I’ll add that I’m sure I played it half ass at best in live settings. This is honestly the first time I’ve ever put Nicko McBrain’s playing under a microscope. This was a pure bitch. I play absolutely nothing like the man. I did avoid use of the left foot throughout but the speed and intricacy of this song is some heavy shit. So Donnie buddy, thank you for getting me to step WAY outside my comfort zone. Tim Hellard, thanks for listening to the attempts leading up to what I used. I watched at least 11 versions of Nicko playing this live and he changed it up every time. So as for little ol’ me, I did this at least 7 different times. I can’t say I’m necessarily satisfied but I did find a way to navigate through it inserting my own thing within the context of the song. Then I made the mistake of looking at other covers after I was done and shiiiiiiiiiiiittttt…….other players on YT (in my opinion) can give drummers a much better roadmap to this song. Anyways, I hope you all are enjoying a great Saturday and as always, thank you so much for any and all support. And my boy Brian, dude, thank ya so damn much for sharing all those vids bro. Too kind.
