Spring is slowly returning to northern Michigan, and the ice on West Bay in Traverse City is beginning to crack as temperatures warm. Harry and Harriet have been busy preparing their nest throughout the week, carefully arranging sticks and testing the nest bowl as egg-laying season approached. Early in the week, the nest area saw some unexpected nighttime visitors. Ricky the Raccoon and his band of bandits were spotted nearby, keeping a curious eye on the nest. With eggs expected soon, Harry made it clear the area was off limits and gave Ricky a lesson about getting too close to the eagles’ home. Then came the moment everyone was waiting for. 🥚 Egg #1 was laid on March 2, 2026 at 4:48 PM — several days later than last year. Just a few days later, Harriet delivered again. 🥚 Egg #2 arrived on March 5, 2026 at 2:15 PM. Shortly after the second egg was laid, the nest faced another challenge. While Harry was incubating, an adult bald eagle intruder landed on the nest, forcing Harry to fiercely defend the eggs. Throughout the week there have been several territorial encounters, and both Harry and Harriet appear to have received minor wounds during the battles. They are dedicated parents, but life in the wild can be tough. Now the big question remains… Will we see a third egg? Bald eagle eggs typically take about 35 days to hatch, and the hatch countdown timers are running on the Cam 2 stream so viewers can follow the journey toward hatch day.
