There are only two stone markers with this lotus bud in Sri Lanka, one of which is at Budhugala and the other is at Manawa Kanda. Also, there is a pit about 1.5 feet in diameter on the rock about ten feet away from the place where this stupa was said to have been built. When it rains, a lotus flower blooms. No matter how much soil is removed. The archeological officer said that the flower blooms every day. It is a wonderful miracle. ➡️ Special thanks to Mr. Tharindu, the archeology officer, who guided us by explaining the facts."""" ➡️ Location - If you're visiting Sri Lanka's cultural triangle looking for a beautiful heritage site that's completely unhindered by the crowds, Manakanda is the perfect off-the-beaten-track destination. It is located in the middle of the most visited heritage zone, about 3.7 km from Maradankadawala junction where the roads from Anuradhapura and Kandy (A9) and from Polonnaruwa (A11) meet.  Almost every tourist from Anuradhapura to Polonnaruwa or Sigiriya or Dambulla comes through Maradankadawala, but almost none of them go to Manakanda ruins. Ritigala is only 22 km by road or 13 km to the east, Manakanda is the name of both the heritage site and the small north-south orientation. Manakanda hill is very visible from the main road. You will find the board of the Department of Archeology on Ipalogama Bypass in Maradankada. On the opposite side of Manakanda mountain are the villages of Ipalogama and Gonapathirawa. It reaches an altitude of 381 meters above sea level.  The view from the top of the hill is quite spectacular. You can see Ritigala to the east and Mihintalea range to the north. ➡️ Blurred history-- Manakanda dates back to the earliest Buddhist era in Sri Lanka, i.e. BC. Believed to have been founded as a monastery during the Buddha's residence in the 3rd and 2nd centuries or earlier, The large stones used for the quarry here are currently decaying. Stones are preserved by peeling bark. Telling the world its antiquity. Archeology indicates that it is even older than Ritigala. Drip-cut stones, inscriptions, and ruins of 70 ancient structures found in the caves of these hills, many of which are known as Padhanagaras.  Such temple complexes like Ritigala and Manakanda are known as Padhanagara ashrams.                               It is also believed that this was used by King Ravana as a medicinal garden.             Also, there is a belief that this is the monastery where Yashodara Maha Rahat Therani lived, and this is also the place where Parinirvana took place.                             It is said that a stupa was built at the place where the cremation was said to have taken place. But today it has been dismantled and removed and a hole with a diameter of about seven feet can be seen. (The archeological officer mentions that this may have happened about a hundred years ago.) ➡️ මානාවකන්ද ඉතිහාසය - මානකන්ද ශ්‍රී ලංකාවේ ආදිතම බෞද්ධ යුගයේ එනම් ක්‍රි.පූ. 3 සහ 2 වැනි සියවස්වල හෝ ඊට පෙර බුදුන් වැඩ සිටි කාලයේ ආරාමයක් ලෙස ආරම්භ කර ඇතැයි විශ්වාස කෙරේ, මෙහි ඇති ගල්ලෙන් සඳහා භාවිතා කළ විශාල ගල් මේ වන විට දිරාපත් වෙමින් පවතී. ගල්වල පොතු ගැලවීමෙන් පවතී. ඒ එහි ඇති ඉපැරණිකම ලොවට කියාපාමින්. රිටිගලටත් වඩා ඉපැරණි බව පුරාවිද්‍යාව සඳහන් කරයි. මෙම කඳුකරයේ ලෙන්වලින් සොයාගත් කටාරම් කැපු ගල්ලෙන්, සෙල්ලිපි, පෞරාණික ව්‍යුහයන් 70 ක නටඹුන් මෙහි සොයාගෙන ඇත, ඒවායින් බොහොමයක් පධානගර ලෙස හැඳින්වේ.  රිටිගල සහ මානකන්ද වැනි මේ ආකාරයේ විහාර සංකීර්ණ පධානගර ආශ්‍රම ලෙස හැඳින්වේ.                               මේ රාවණා රජු විසින් භාවිතා කළ ඖෂධ උයනක් බවට ද විශ්වාසයක්පවතී. එමෙන්ම යශෝදරා මහා රහත් තෙරණින් වහන්සේ වැඩහිඳි ආරාමය මෙය බවද, පරිනිර්වාණය සිදුවූ ස්ථානයත් මෙය බවටද විශ්වාසයක් පවතී. ආදාහනය සිදුකළා යයි කියන ස්ථානයේ ස්ථූපයක් ඉදිකර තිබුණ බව සඳහන්. නමුත් අද වන විට එය කඩා බිඳ දමා ඉවත් කර එහි අඩි හතක පමණ විෂ්කම්භයකින් යුත් වලක් හාරා තිබෙනු දක්නට පුළුවන්. (පුරාවිද්‍යා නිලධාරියා සඳහන් කරේ මීට අවුරුදු සීයකට පමණ පෙර ඒ දේ සිදුවන්නට ඇති බවයි.)  එම හාරා ඇති වල ඇතුළේ පරවුණ පොහොට්ටුව සළකුණ සහිත ගල් සලකුණේ භාගයක් පමණක් දකින්න තිබෙනවා.        මෙම පරවුණු පොහොට්ටුව සහිත ගල් සලකුණු ලංකාවටම දෙතැනක පමණක් තිබෙන අතර එයින් එකක් බුදුගල හා අනෙක මානාව කන්දේ මෙම ස්ථානයේ ඇත. එමෙන්ම මෙම ස්තූපය ඉදිකර තිබුණායයි සඳහන් ස්ථානයේ සිට අඩි දහයක් පමණ දුරින් ගල්තලාව මත අඩි 1.5 පමණ විෂ්කම්භයකින් යුත් වළක් තියෙනවා. වහින්න කාලෙට මේකෙ නෙළුම් මලක් පිපෙනවා. එතනට එකතුවෙන පස් කොච්චර අයින් කරත්. ඒ මල හැමදාම පිපෙනවා කියලා පුරාවිද්‍යා නිලධාරි මහත්තයා පැවසුවා. එය හරි පුදුම ආශ්චර්යයක්. #srilanka #manakanda #sihaladiv
