We move our cows to a fresh paddock once or twice a week. After they leave, the paddock rests for at least 60 days to improve soil quality and reduce parasite pressure. This is just a brief video that shows what a typical move is like. When the cows hear me whistle, they know it's time. I have learned over the past couple of years that they don't tend to do things quickly, but rather a bit at a time. They progress and pause, progress and pause, sometimes because they're waiting for others to catch up, and other times I don't know why. I just know they tend to follow the progress-and-pause pattern. I'm new to farming and was intimidated by the prospect of getting them to go where I wanted, but turns out it's really quite easy with planning and patience. They've learned the routine and enjoy moving to fresh forage.
