RRB PO and Clerk mains quant requires a mix of accuracy, speed, conceptual clarity and the ability to handle data-heavy sets. Since the level is moderate to high, your preparation must be structured from Day 1. Follow this step-by-step plan to build your mains quant foundation and gradually move to exam-level performance. Start with the core arithmetic chapters Arithmetic forms almost 40 to 50 percent of mains-level questions directly or through DI. Begin with percentage, ratio, proportion, profit and loss, simple and compound interest, time and work, time-speed-distance, mixture-alligation and partnerships. Your goal should be to understand the formulas, shortcut approaches and pattern-based solving used in mains. Build DI concepts along with arithmetic RRB mains always tests DI thinking. Start practicing table DI, bar graph, line graph and caselet sets. Focus more on mixed arithmetic-based DI because these give high accuracy if concepts are strong. Practice simplifying calculations, approximations and ratio-based solving to reduce time. Start solving mains-level question sets early Do not wait until the syllabus is finished. Add one mains-level DI or arithmetic set every day. This builds your logical stamina and teaches you how to handle lengthy sets under time pressure. Pick sets with medium difficulty in the beginning and then move towards exam-level sets. Focus on accuracy before speed In mains, accuracy is more important than attempting too many questions. Train yourself to attempt only high-confidence questions first. Develop the habit of eliminating lengthy approaches and spotting direct patterns. Practice caselets and arithmetic-heavy DI regularly RRB mains frequently includes caselets where data is hidden in statements. Practice interpreting the statements and forming equations. Arithmetic-heavy DI such as profit and loss based DI, mixture DI, time and work DI and percentage-based DI should be a regular part of your preparation. Maintain a question journal Write down tricky questions, unique patterns, new shortcuts and DI interpretations. Revise this journal every week. This becomes your most valuable resource in the last 20 days before the exam. Give weekly mains mock tests Start with one mock per week and gradually move to two. After each mock, spend more time analyzing than solving. Check which DI sets consumed more time, which arithmetic questions were avoidable, and where you made calculation mistakes. Build an effective exam attempt plan Your attempt strategy matters the most. Start quant with the easiest DI or easiest arithmetic questions. Avoid long sets initially. Divide your paper into phases: Phase 1: Solve 8 to 10 high-confidence questions Phase 2: Attempt medium-level questions Phase 3: Revisit skipped sets only if time remains This gives better accuracy and overall marks.
