Houghton College has memorialized these students with a sculpture of six eagles that rises from a dais located between six park benches. Isaiah 40 declares that "those who hope in the Lord will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles..." (niv) We treasure the memories of Mark Anderson, Beth Andes, Al Bushart, Joy Ellis, Bert Rapp, and Cindy Rudes, all of whom we were blessed to know personally. We were thankful for the honor of singing at the celebration of their lives and the races they had run. An interesting detail concerning these 6 students and this song is that the phone call I received telling me of their accident was in the YMCA building in Honolulu, Hawaii where, about two weeks later in one of the stairwells, the Lord helped me write this song.
