You might never have heard about one of the hardest jobs in the Navy. The Naval Construction Battalion –better known as the Seabees– is the group tasked with building many of the US’s military installations around the world. Seabees are deployed globally to construct bases, airfields, roads, bridges, and underwater infrastructure critical to US military operations. Seabees often work long hours and must be able to build and repair this infrastructure quickly, under harsh conditions, and during wartime. The Seabees were formally established on March 5, 1942, to assist with construction during the second World War; its name comes from an abbreviation of “Construction Battalion”, while its motto is “Construimus, Batuimus”, or “We Build, We Fight”. In the nearly 8 decades since, the seabees have lived up to the motto, serving in every major US conflict and constructing numerous monumental projects around the world. Among these were research bases in Antarctica, where Seabees built structures like the remote Amundsen-Scott South Pole Station, including its famous 6-story metal protective dome. #themilitaryshow #shorts
