Today on our 2014 Kia Sorento, we're going to be taking a look at and also showing you how to install the Hopkins Plugin Simple Custom Wiring Harness with a Four Pole Flat Trailer Connector. Part number is HM11143820. This is what our wiring harness is going to look like when we pull it out of our package. Of course our main goal is to have a working four pole trailer connector on the rear of our vehicle. This is going to give us our right, left, stop and turn signals, our running lights and then our ground, so everything works properly. To do that we've got our converter box. Now this converter box is going to take signal from, with the yellow, red and brown wire here from behind the driver's side tail light housing. The green wire is going to go behind our passenger side tail light housing. It comes into the box and then it's converted into a usable signal for our trailer. The converter itself is going to put out six amps for our running light and it's going to put out three amps for the stop light and for the turn signal. That should give us plenty of power to get all the lights on our trailer functioning without any issues. This is powered from a stand alone power wire so we're not drawing power from our system to make this work. We've got our 12 volt wire here, extra length of wire. We're going to run that right up and make our connection at the battery so we get a direct power source coming into our box. The white wire here, this is going to be grounded out to either an already existing maybe a stud sitting out somewhere in the vehicle or we can use the self-tapping screw and secure it right into the sheet metal. The fuse holder here is going to take care of making our connection up at the battery. You see we've already got a ring terminal there in place. It's going to be provided with the 15 amp fuse. It will need to go in fuse holder. We've got a dust cap that's going to go over the end of our wiring to make sure that stays nice and debris and corrosion free. They've given us some zip ties that we'll use to help secure our 12 volt wire or help to secure our box. Now I typically go through these zip ties and also need extra zip ties so you might want to think about having some of those on hand and also the small butt connector here since this is going to be on the outside of the vehicle. We're going to be replacing this with part number DW05744. That's going to be a 16 to 14 gauge butt connector but it's going to be a Heat Shrink Tite so we won't have to worry about any corrosion or anything like that getting in here to our connection point. To begin our installation we need to remove the two screws that are holding each tail light assembly in. You just require a Phillips bit there and we just want to gently pry the housing out and away from the rear of the vehicle so then if we rotate it around right there on the bottom there's a small tab we can push in and that will allow us to separate our plug. Now we'll go over here to the passenger side, we want to do the same thing here. We'll set these aside somewhere safe so we don't drop them, break them or scratch them. We can grab our wiring kit. You'll see how this is just going to plug right in to our factory connector. Nice secure fit. We're going to push it all the way in till we hear that little click then we should be able to push and pull on it without it separating. Remember we talked about this butt connector and how we're going to get rid of it. I just want to cut that off there and strip back the end of our wire. Then we'll head on our heat shrink. This is going to give us superior moisture resistance. It helps guarantee we'll have good working wiring for a very long time. Now we can grab our bulk red wire and get the end of it stripped off. It's going to go on to the other side of that connector then we'll use a heat source to get it shrunk down. That can be one of the little mini torches, it can be a heat gun. It can be a lighter. We want to get that shrunk down. Once it shrinks down all the way you'll see your wire kind of look like it magnifies almost, it gets bigger. Then at the end of it there you'll see a little bit of clear gel that comes up. That gel is going to act like glue to keep out any moisture. Now I'm going to take a longer zip tie. I'm going to go in both sides of my box there. You'll see that I've got areas there that allow for that zip tie to pass
