ESL Games (GWG) #31 Higher or Lower

#guyswithgames #ESLgames #31 Higher or Lower (Instructions Below) Hi team. We are Guys With Games ESL/EAL Activities. We share new games every week for you to use in the ESL classroom. Our focus is teaching English in a fun way and sharing games that deliberately make English the main focus, not just an afterthought. Today’s Game: In today’s video, Carson (USA) teaches us how to play a fun and engaging game for your ESL Students focused on expanding curriculum. It can be used to practice both individual comprehension and teamwork. Name of the game: Higher or Lower Materials: Questions related to the material with numbers for answers (prepared in advance) “How much...” or “How many...” Black/whiteboard This is a logical reasoning game that allows students to have short conversations, access previous knowledge and use common sense to answer questions. The questions target a specific topic that should be tailored to the class/level. Ideal class size: 2-100 Students Instructions: Prep by reviewing the material you will teach that day. Then write questions related to that material that can be answered with a number. (Ex: “How much time do people spend reading my descriptions?” Or “How many viewers see a GWG video on an average Sunday?”). Finally, search the internet for the answers to any questions you don’t know the answer to. Start the game by dividing the class into multiple teams. Choose one team to go first. For younger students, the teacher can make the first guess (shown in the video as “100”). For older students, you can allow the first team to make the first guess. After the first guess has been made, the following team chooses a direction (higher or lower) and makes a different guess in that direction. Subsequent guesses continue in that direction until someone feels the number gets TOO HIGH or TOO LOW. Once a team declares TOO HIGH or TOO LOW, the real answer is revealed. A point is awarded either to the team which correctly declared TOO HIGH or TOO LOW, or the previous team for giving a valid answer. Additionally, an optional point could be awarded to anyone who guessed the exact answer. Check out examples of questions at 2:12 Like this game?
