I do remember the first time I worked on it with a student. It was with Mariana Palacios 15 years ago. I remember the impact that her performance caused in the school and how since then, every year there has been at least one student who wants to play it. George Crumb has definitely nailed something that connects with a lot of people in contemporary music. As in each of his works, nothing is left over and nothing is missing. Not a note, not a gesture. All beautiful and interesting. The work travels in an imaginary way, frescoes of the Cappella degli Scrovegni in Padua. Seven musical scenes that translate into sounds, as many images printed on the wall by Giotto with equal mastery. The work is already a classic of universal piano literature. Sí recuerdo la primera vez que la trabajé con un alumno. Fue con Mariana Palacios hace ya 15 años. Recuerdo el impacto que causó su interpretación en la escuela y cómo desde entonces cada año hay algún alumno que quiere tocarla. Definitivamente, George Crumb ha dado en el clavo de algo que a mucha gente le gusta en la música contemporánea. Como en cada una de sus obras, nada sobra y nada falta. Ni una nota, ni un gesto. Todo en su justa medida. Todo hermoso e interesante. La obra recorre de manera imaginaria, frescos de la Cappella degli Scrovegni en Padua. Siete escenas musicales que trasladan a sonidos, otras tantas imágenes impresas en la pared por Giotto con igual maestría. La obra es ya un clásico de la literatura pianística universal.
