Fooling around with this epic song. Recorded on my Roland RD-1000. This song really is a movie in itself, with astonishing imagery from Taupin's lyrics and haunting piano chords. It is a delight to sing, and a difficult one to do well. As usual, I'm using Elton's live piano sound - my recreation of the sound we are used to hearing from his piano on stage. As well as the sound itself, it is essential to understand and play to Elton's signature feel and style, which I try hard to do in all of my videos. Playing like Elton John is not an easy thing to do convincingly, and I have studied for pretty much my whole musical career to get it right, that said there's always work to be done. I am using my Roland RD1000 piano here, however as you will see from my other content I have an RD2000 also which I use for EJ content.
