ATHENS (Nea Smyrni) Morning Walk at Shopping District, Greece

Today we are situated in Nea Smyrni, a suburb south of Athens and we will take a morning walk in the commercial streets, the central square and the park of the area. Nea Smyrni is a popular area of Athens to live in, vibrating with energy. There is easy access to many other areas of Athens and the city tram is crossing through the center of Nea Smyrni. In Nea Smyrni you can enjoy your coffee, food or drink, in a scenery with lots of green and exotic palm trees or take a walk in its numerous shops. The inhabitation of the area started with the arrival of Greek refugees from Smyrna and other parts of Minor Asia in 1922 where it got its name from. It was built during the first years of the refugee settlement and was included in Athens city plan. Initially as a settlement in the 1920s and then in the 1930s as a community to become a municipality during the years of German occupation in the 1940s. The city further developed from the subsequent wave of internal migration in the 1960s reaching its current state.
