Leh stands firm: No to outsider investment in tourism sector

On 12th April 2025, a collective resolution was passed in Leh to protect Ladakh's tourism sector and fragile ecosystem from unsustainable development and external commercial exploitation. Recognizing the vital role tourism plays in the local economy—contributing over 70% and serving as the largest employment source—the resolution emphasizes the need to preserve Ladakh as a unique and sustainable destination. It strongly opposes external investments and exploitation of local resources, advocating instead for the protection of indigenous livelihoods, environmental conservation, and community-led tourism practices. The resolution was unanimously supported by representatives from the travel trade fraternity, community groups, and political organizations.
